An old man, a half-forgotten formula
A few years back I was visiting my grandma’s village. There was an old man there who used to make shoes — hadn’t touched the trade in years. We got talking, and he told me something about polishing leather edges that most people forget: it’s not about what you put on the edge. It’s about how many times you work it.
He gave me his formula, half from memory, half sketched out with his hands. I lost touch with him not long after. I don’t know if anyone else ever learned what he told me that day.
It took me 5 years to build my own compound formula around what he taught me. That part’s mine now — I won’t share it. What I will tell you is that it’s the reason our edges don’t just look good in a photo. They hold up.
