The Shipyard is a folded leather work mat for anyone who maintains, repairs, or builds knives and tools. Open it on your bench and everything has a place — the knife lies flat on the main surface, screws go in the magnetic slots so nothing rolls off the table, bits for your screwdriver sit in their own magnetized section. Close it and it packs into a branded hard box that fits in your bag.
If you’ve ever lost a pivot screw mid-disassembly, this is what you needed.
The basics
- Open size: 26 × 20 cm (10.2″ × 7.9″)
- Folded: 13 × 20 cm, 12–14 mm thick
- Box: 24 × 17 × 6.5 cm — branded hard box, ready to gift or store
- 4 magnetic slots along the top — holds screws, pivot pins, springs, any small metal parts
- Large lower working surface — lay your knife flat while you work
- Small lower section with 4 magnets — dedicated holder for your most-used screwdriver bits
- Strong neodymium magnets throughout
- Multi-layer construction, fully hand-stitched
- Made by hand in my Kyiv workshop — one mat takes a full day, over 10 hours of work
The leathers
-
Tan — Ponte Wax by Conceria Il Ponte (Tuscany, Italy) — vegetable-tanned, smooth, warm natural tone that develops a patina with use
-
Black — Koala by Conceria Puccini Attilio (Tuscany, Italy) — full-grain, smooth, even surface, minimal marking
Both color combos use the same two leathers, swapped between exterior and inlays:
-
Tan & Black — Tan exterior and main frame, Black inlays
-
Black & Tan — Black exterior and main frame, Tan inlays
All full-grain — the top layer of the hide, not corrected or bonded scraps.
Why it takes a full day to make
The Shipyard is a multi-layer construction. Every compartment is cut by hand, every layer is stitched by hand. The magnetic slots are set individually, the edges are hand-burnished. There are no shortcuts in the build — which is exactly why it holds up and stays flat on the bench after years of use. One mat takes more than 10 hours from start to finish.

FAQ
Is this for carrying a knife?
No. The Shipyard is a work surface, not a carry case. It’s for disassembly, maintenance, and repair — you open it on a table, work on it, then fold it up. If you’re looking for knife carry, the Sailor sheath is for that.
What tools does it work with?
Any folding knife or tool that fits on a 26 × 20 cm surface. The magnetic slots along the top catch screws, pivot pins, springs, and small metal parts so nothing gets lost mid-job. The lower bit section holds standard screwdriver bits.
How strong are the magnets?
Strong neodymium magnets — they hold small hardware securely even if the mat shifts on the bench. Not strong enough to pull a closed knife toward them, but strong enough that a loose screw won’t roll off.
Can I carry it in a bag?
Yes. Folded it’s 13 × 20 cm and 12–14 mm thick — fits in the main pocket of most backpacks. The branded hard box (24 × 17 × 6.5 cm) protects it in transit or storage.
When will my order ship?
All pre-orders ship in the second half of August 2026. You’ll get a tracking number the day it ships.
Who makes it and where?
I do — Vitalii, by hand, in my workshop in Kyiv, Ukraine. Every piece takes over 10 hours to build. Every order ships with a handwritten note. We’ve shipped 7,000+ orders and earned 700+ five-star reviews.
