Pirate Goods First Mate Fatty – Large Leather EDC Organizer
Leather goods that age with you — not wear out.
Multi-tool, knife, flashlight, pen, and notebook. One organizer.
The First Mate Fatty is the largest pocket organizer I make. Built for a full loadout: a Leatherman or multi-tool, a full-size knife, an AA flashlight, a full-size pen, and a Field Notes notebook in the back pocket. With or without a pen loop. Still fits in a back jeans pocket.
The basics
- Size: 15 × 13 cm with pen loop / 15 × 11 cm without
- Back notebook pocket: 11.5 × 10 cm (fits Field Notes)
- Internal pockets: 9 × 5.5 cm and 7 × 4.5 cm
- Full-grain leather, hand-stitched, hand-burnished edges
- Made by hand in my Kyiv workshop, one at a time
What fits
Multi-tools: Leatherman Wave, Surge, Skeletool, Charge. Knives: Benchmade Bugout, Spyderco Para 3. Flashlight: Olight i5t AA and similar. Pen: any full-size pen. Notebook: Field Notes (9 × 14 cm) in the back pocket.
The leather (and why it’s named on the label)
- Crazy Horse (Rusty) — waxed pull-up. Scratches rub out with your thumb, darkens with carry.
- Ponte Wax (Tan) — vegetable-tanned, smooth, natural color that patinas gradually.
- Koala (Black) — smooth, even, minimal marking.
All full-grain — the top layer of the hide, not corrected or bonded scraps.
Who it’s not for
If you only carry a knife and flashlight without a multi-tool, the standard First Mate gives you a slimmer carry at $64. For something more compact, look at the First Mate v3.
FAQ
Does it really fit in a pocket?
Yes — the back pocket of most jeans accommodates it. It sits vertically so it doesn’t stick out.
Does the notebook pocket fit Field Notes specifically?
Yes. Back pocket is 11.5 × 10 cm — Field Notes fit perfectly. Other notebooks of similar size work too.
Do I need the pen loop?
Only if you carry a pen alongside everything else. Without it, the organizer is 2 cm narrower.
What multi-tools fit?
Leatherman Wave, Surge, Skeletool, Charge. Internal pocket is 9 × 5.5 cm.
Who makes it and where?
I do, by hand, in my workshop in Kyiv, Ukraine. Every order ships with a handwritten note. We’ve shipped 7,000+ orders and earned 600+ five-star reviews.
