This Boatswain v3 is made from Van Gogh leather by Conceria Il Ponte (Tuscany, Italy) in color Caramel — a warm golden-brown with a smooth, bright aniline finish. Hand-stamped with matte gold foil, stitched with Camel linen thread. The same leather as the bright gold version, different finish on both foil and thread — quieter, more tonal, the understated one of the pair.
Van Gogh is Conceria Il Ponte’s Tamponato leather — the most authentic leather produced in Tuscany, by their own description. French bovine shoulders, 100% vegetable-tanned with Quebracho and Mimosa extracts following an old tannery recipe. The hide is finished by hand then sprayed with aniline colors, giving it transparency, shine, and natural appearance. The matte gold foil stamp sits into the leather without glinting. Camel thread disappears against the Caramel hide rather than contrasting it.
If the bright gold version is the statement, this is the one you carry every day and nobody can quite figure out what makes it look that good.
